KIND Project Research Accepted at 49th Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuropediatrics

We’re excited to announce that the first results from our KIND project research have been accepted for presentation at the 49th Annual Meeting of the German Society for Neuropediatrics in Stuttgart, October 10-12, 2024.

Our team will present:

Gruener, M.-R., West, E., l’Allemand, D., Oberhauser, S., Heldt, K., Kowatsch, T., Jovanova, M., & Broser, P. (2024) A Novel Digital Biomarker on the Impact of Glucose Fluctuations on Nerve Conduction Velocity in Pediatric T1D

This work introduces the Glucose Fluctuation Moment Index (GFMI), a novel digital biomarker that more precisely assesses glucose fluctuations’ impact on nerve conduction velocity in pediatric Type 1 Diabetes patients. Our findings show GFMI outperforms existing glucose variability metrics, potentially improving early detection and monitoring of diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

This research is part of our broader KIND project, recently awarded the HSG Health Forward Grant, which aims to understand glucose fluctuations and nerve vitality in children and adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes.

Congratulations to our interdisciplinary team from the University of St. Gallen and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Switzerland:
Marc Robin Gruener, Dr. Mia Jovanova, Prof. Dr. Tobias Kowatsch, PD Dr. med. Philip Broser, Dr. med. Sarah Oberhauser, Prof. Dr. med. Dagmar l’Allemand, Dr. med. Katrin Heldt, Dr. Erin West.

We invite all interested colleagues to join Marc Gruener at the conference or reach out via email.
